Discover the Various Faces of Paris
Linking the Ile de la Cité with the Ile Saint-Louis, the Pont Saint-Louis has been destroyed and rebuilt many times. Starting from the Jeu de Paume hotel go up the rue Saint-Louis en l’Ile, you’ll find it by chance, and by magic. This bridge still magical no matter the weather, it represents perfectly the soul of the Ile Saint-Louis. It will lead you to the Cathedral Notre-Dame, and its nice small garden, up to the Flower market, and further on the banks of the Seine River, your feet will lead you to the Hôtel de Ville, Châtelet and the Centre Pompidou, or on the other side, to Saint-Michel and the Latin quarter, full of students from the Sorbonne. Two worlds, two faces of our beautiful city, two destinations…The choice is yours!

For the record the Pont Saint-Louis was called the “Pont Rouge” (French for the Red Bridge) because of the paint used for its rebuilding in 1717. The seven-arches bridge has been destroyed by the swelling of the Seine River in 1795. From a two-arches bridge it became in 1842 a suspension bridge. Twenty years later a metallic bridge replaced it. During the Second World War, it has been demolished again, in 1939, and was replaced by a “passerelle” looking like an iron cage, in 1941. The present bridge has been built in 1968.
